.. funnily enough this just came up in conversation when we were discussing the planting up of the project. So I can't wait to write the list of lovely plants which I can choose to enhance the design. Due to the very solid rock base we will be limited in what we can plant. A priority with the planting is to choose plants appropriate to the site. There is a considerable amount of water seeping out from the huge rock face which towers up above the cottage to the south (from where I took the middle photo).. although drainage channels have been dug and coil set in on type 1, I would like to add appropriate planting behind the retaining wall. It will be back filled with much of what came out but we will add some decent soil and compost and plant into that.
You can see Ailsa Craig on the horizon... A volcanic plug where the granite for curling stones is quarried.
