I have been watching Goldfinches, Blue tits and Chaffinches feasting on the Achillea and Verbena bonariensis seedheads. A perennial border is lovely in your garden if you enjoy watching nature. Berries on the shrubs proved popular too as the Blackbirds feasted on the Pyracantha. I have a Himalayan Birch too and the Blue tits seem to enjoy the catkins and no doubt the odd juicy insect!
And I've had real interest in the nesting box! I've been watching a Blue tit inspecting the entrance and finally go in to have a look...
The pond has only frozen over once as we've been having this unseasonably mild weather, so lots of bathing beauties as the Blackbirds and Sparrows jostle for position on the little pontoon I put in for them.
Must get a good camera with a zoom lens to capture all this activity.. the phone just doesn't do it..
It's pure pleasure being able to linger over a cup of coffee and gaze out at the winter garden..
I'm working on the design in Troon and as they enjoy watching the birds I'll definitely be adding swathes of the aforementioned perennials.
